Spotlight: Samantha Kennedy, CFP®, CDFA®, Wealth Advisor

What led you to this industry/field? What are you most passionate about?

I had the opportunity to work for Amazon as a financial analyst. I quickly learned that I desired to work in an industry that required a strong quantitative skillset while also providing the opportunity to build meaningful relationships. Early in my transition to this field, I found the right mentor who helped me navigate this career change. It was through my mentorship I learned the skills to truly understand clients' needs and aspirations. Now, I love to partner with families to determine what matters most to them and implement a financial plan that is aligned with their goals and dreams.

What advice would you give to a woman starting in this industry today?

Ask for help and seek mentorship with other industry professionals who want you to succeed. I'm constantly amazed with how generous other advisors are with their time and the support provided to help someone else find their way! Don't be afraid to reach out to professionals you admire, even if they seem far ahead in their careers. Many of my most valuable mentoring relationships I’ve had started with a simple request for coffee. Working at a place like Composition Wealth, where advisors genuinely support each other, has made a huge difference in my growth.

Who are your role models or mentors who have inspired you?

Towards the beginning of my career, I had the opportunity to work with an advisor who joined the industry because he and his wife were misled with regards to a major financial purchase, their first home. Every future conversation with this advisor encouraged me to ask myself: "how can I provide education and be a resource when families need it most?" I am extremely grateful to have had a mentor early on who modeled the way advisors can serve others.
