Spotlight: Marla Wooton, CRPC®, Chief Compliance Officer
What led you to this industry, and what are you passionate about?
I got into financial services because I believe knowledge is meant to be shared. Whether you earn it or inherit it, wealth comes with a responsibility to help others understand financial stability. Compliance may not be the flashiest part of the industry, but it's the foundation of trust—and that's what I care about most.
My journey hasn't been easy. As a Black woman in finance, I've faced challenges, including working through a failed partnership, and had moments where I felt judged before I even spoke. But through it all, I stayed committed to my values and my purpose. Joining Composition Wealth was a turning point in my career—it's one of the few places I've worked where I felt I could show up as myself and thrive.
This industry has given me knowledge that changed my life and my family's future. I'm proud to say I've passed that down—all four of my children have college degrees, and three are homeowners. And yes, I love my financial success! But for me, success isn't just about what I earn—it's about using what I've learned to create opportunities and build a legacy.
What advice would you give to a woman starting in this industry?
It's not always easy to speak up, but when something matters, find a way to say it. Your voice belongs in the room, even if it takes a minute to get the words out. This industry can be tough, but integrity will always set you apart.
Treat people the way you want to be treated, stay curious, and don't let challenges make you doubt yourself. Surround yourself with people who support and challenge you; remember—success isn't just about making money. It's about making an impact while building wealth on your own terms.
Who has inspired you the most?
I'm inspired by people who do the right thing, even when it's hard. The best mentors I've had weren't just knowledgeable—they shared what they knew and helped others rise. I admire anyone willing to break barriers, push for better, and make space for the next person. That's the kind of leader I strive to be every day.
